The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team put 47 shots on goal against Detroit Lakes on Friday night as the Otters recorded a 5-2 victory over the Lakers.  Otter goalie Ben Swanson turned aside 12 shots.

DL got the scoring started 3:09 into the game when Spencer Bergman scored from Breck Winter.  The Otters tied the game at 4:41 on a Cole Zierden goal from Isaac Johnson and Matthew NiblockCarter Bellefeuille broke the tie with assists from Jacob McAllister and Cole Larson at 5:41, giving the Lakers a 2-1 advantage.  Ian Richards made it 2-2 with assists from Colin Becker and Isaac Johnson.

A power play goal by Carter Thielke at 5:04 of the second period proved to be the game winner.  Landon Thacker and Michael DeBrito earned assists on the goal.

In the third period Thacker scored from Thielke and DeBrito at 9:57 and Kellen Stenstrom tallied the final goal with assists from Sterling Andrews and Colton Partain.

“We had a hard fought battle with DL on Senior Night,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue of the Otters.  “We didn’t get off to a good start, but played better in the second period and got a big power play goal from Carter Thielke to take the lead.  We came out with good energy in the third and buried a couple of pucks to take control.  I thought our penalty kill was really good.  The guys stepped up and got the job done on special teams, which was good to see.”

Fergus Falls (7-1) recorded their seventh straight victory.  They will host St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday.
