Pelican Rapids held a slim 27-25 halftime lead on Thursday night, but dominated the second half of their home game with Hawley, recording a 58-41 Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball victory over the Nuggets.

“This was a good team effort tonight to get a much needed conference win for our guys,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We had our lapses offensively where we missed some makeable shots but stayed pretty consistent on the defensive end which was nice to see. Overall our effort and focus on defense is improving which is what we are going to need as we move into the second half of the season.”

Liam Sytsma had a game high 13 points to lead the Vikings.  Brayden Ecker contributed 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Tanner Tollerud added 11 points and 3 steals, and McHale Korf dished out 10 assists, grabbed 6 rebounds, and came up with 3 steals.  Hunter Williams led the team with 9 rebounds.

Hawley was led by Justin Koski with 13 points.  Hayden Grani added 7 points for the Nuggets.

Pelican Rapids (5-3) will host Barnesville on Tuesday night.

Hawley (3-5) has a road game against DGF on Tuesday.
