After starting the year with five away events, the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie wrestlers finally got to stay home for a couple this past week.

On Tuesday, the 6th ranked Vikings of Minneota and Osakis Silverstreaks traveled to Parkers Prairie.  The Vikings took the opening match by decision.  David Revering and Deagen Captain each earned hard-fought decision to give the Raiders the 6-3 lead.  It was short lived as Minneota took 126 by fall.  The back and forth dual continued as Reese Thompson’s major decision made it 10-9.  Blake Sumstad added a Forfeit and Gauge Malone picked up his first career victory to extend the lead to 19-9.  The Vikings would battle back with a fall and major decision to even the dual at 19-19 with five matches to go.  It was at that point that the top end took control of the dual as Brock Peterson, Hunter Dean, Gideon Ervasti, and James Grant all earned falls to put the dual away at 43-22.

The nightcap against Osakis saw only six contested bouts.  The Silverstreaks pinned to open the dual.  Revering answered with one of his own to even it up.  Deagen Captain and Aiden Larson grabbed forfeits in front of a decision for Sumstad and another major decision for Thompson to make 25-6.  Osakis took the next two matches before a parade of forfeits for Mason Schroeder, Peterson, Dean, Tyler Eggert, Grant, and Melvin Blumer to settle the dual 61-16.

Saturday saw another home event for the Raiders.  This time in Bertha as we welcomed Lean and Mean Crookston and 3rd ranked ACGC for another competitive triangular.  BHVPP took the lead in the opening dual with a forfeit for Bennet Arceneau and a major decision for Revering to make it 10-0.  The Raiders would battle tough in the next few matches but fall short as the Pirates ran off five matches in a row to take the lead 21-10 at the midway point.  However, the second half all went in favor of the Raiders as falls for Jason Koehn, Schroeder, Dean, Eggert, Grant, and Hayden Captain along with a decision for Ervasti over the 2nd ranked wrestler at 195 secured the victory 49-21.

The late afternoon matinee started off strong for the Raiders with an Arceneau fall and Revering decision for the 9-0 lead.  The momentum was building as Deagen Captain was leading the top ranked wrestler midway through the third period before losing by fall.  Larson would add a decision and it was 12-6 with ten weights to go.  The Falcons then took control of the dual winning the next six matches, five of them by fall to secure the dual with a 39-12 lead.  BHVPP closed the gap in the final four matches winning three of them.  Dean decisioned a ranked opponent and falls for Ervasti and Grant made the dual 45-27 after ACGC grabbed the heavyweight bout.

We have reached the middle week of the season and the Raiders are sitting at 9-5 after starting the season with top tier competition.  The next couple events are familiar opponents on the schedule as BHVPP hopes to continue wrestling at a high level.  Next up is Pelican Rapids and Staples-Motley on Tuesday in Verndale and then Royalton/Upsala and Frazee in Upsala on Thursday followed by two more home events the following week.  #BHVPP #allforoneoneforall
