“The Rockets came out in their 1-3-1 defense and brought their typical high pressure style,” noted Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso. “We struggled to handle that pressure and a number of turnovers were converted into easy Rocket baskets. In the second half, we did a better job against the trap, but just couldn't cut into the lead.”
Battle Lake was led by Grace VanErp with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Ady Tysdal added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Liz Lukken finished with 22 points, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead Underwood. Josey Bugbee (12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals), Ezrah Baker (10 points, 4 steals), Mo Bugbee (7 points, 4 assists), and Brooke Hovland (6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) all contributed to the win.
“We did a very good job of seeing the open person,” said Head Coach Brian Hovland of the Rockets. “We were able to turn steals into fast break points. A great job of playing team defense and being unselfish on the break. Liz had a career high and did a very nice job getting to the hole and finishing. We got some really nice play off the bench from Ezrah and Jorja Gabrielson.”
The Rockets will host Rothsay next Thursday and then go to Henning for a matchup with the defending Section 6A champion Hornets on Saturday afternoon.
Battle Lake (3-4) is home to West Central Area on Tuesday and will travel to Fergus Falls to face Hillcrest on Thursday.
