The Ashby boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten on the season with a 56-39 win over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Tuesday night in Wheaton.  The Arrows trailed 16-13 before going on an 11-2 run to end the half leading 24-18.  They extended the margin to 21 points ten minutes into the second half.

“Our activity on defense kept us in the game,” commented Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “We were able to score several baskets off turnovers.  The Warriors start four sophomores and a junior and they have the potential to be a very good team.”

For the second consecutive game the Arrows placed four players in double figures.  Jacob Cook led all scorers with 15 points.  Torin Olson netted 14 and Hunter Norby and Jaden Norby scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Ashton Ecker made two baskets and grabbed four rebounds.

“It was a very competitive first half and we were able to take a small lead at several different times in the half,” said Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Head Coach Jordon Roos.  “In the second half after about 5 minutes, Ashby’s defense stifled us and we were not able to get anything going. Our offensive struggles led to some mistakes on the defensive end as Ashby was able to build a solid lead. We played a really well for a large part of this game and it is something we will build off of.”

The Warriors were led by Dylan Bainbridge (14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Andrew Walker (6 points, 8 rebounds).  They shot just 23.6% (13-55) from the field.

Ashby made 43.3% (26-60) of their field goal attempts and won the rebounding battle, 47-32.

Ashby (5-0) has a Little Eight Conference game at Battle Lake on Friday.

The Warriors (2-4) will play at West Central Area on Thursday night.
