The Battle Lake boys' basketball team went on the road to face the Henning Hornets on Monday night. The Battlers got out to an early lead, but quickly saw it disappear after a hot shooting night from Hornet guard Tyson Misegades, who hit six three-pointers in the first half as the Hornets built a 42-25 halftime lead and went on to win, 70-56.

“It was nice to pick up a win after getting beat last Friday,” stated Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We came out of the gates slowly, but, Tyson Misegades caught fire midway through the half, making six triples in the half, which gave us some momentum.”

Misegades finished with a game high 29 points and was joined in double figures by Tanner Arndt with 15.   Ethan Houselog pulled down 9 rebounds for the Hornets.  Mason Hammer had 8 points, 5 boards and 4 assists.  Arndt also had 4 assists and Joe Angell grabbed 6 rebounds.  Henning shot 46% (24-52) from the floor and made 8-of-21 (38%) from beyond the arc.  They also made 14-of-19 (73%) free throws.

“Battle Lake played very hard and clawed back to make it tight, but we were able to seal the deal with some big baskets and free throws late,” added Misegades.  “I thought Ethan Houselog was great tonight, grabbing 9 rebounds and playing solid D, along with a few buckets down low. We just need to continue working to get consistent effort from all of our guys on both ends of the floor each night.”

Henning was held without a point for nearly five minutes to start the second half as the Battlers cut into their lead, getting to within five points late in the game.

“Henning stayed composed and finished the game strong by knocking down some free throws after we were forced to foul,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Tyler Owen.

Kayne Cameron led the Battlers in scoring with 18 points.  Brady VanErp scored all eleven of his points in the second half and Drew Johnson hit three 3’s to finish with 9 points.

Henning (4-2) will host Sebeka on Thursday night, and Battle Lake (1-5) is at Ashby on Friday.
