The Battle Lake Battlers went on the road Friday night to face the Hancock Owls. A combination of poor shooting and turnovers led to the Battlers getting down big early and the Owls were able to walk away with a 76-45 victory.

Hancock junior Matt Thompson had a big first half, scoring a cool 12 points before the break, and senior Kody Berget lit it up from downtown, hitting four three-pointers to also finish the first half with 12 points.

“We worked through some issues at halftime, primarily addressing the issues of taking care of the basketball, being patient offensively, and adjusting the defensive scheme to focus on taking away shot opportunities for both Thompson and Berget,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Tyler Owen.  “The plan worked well as we saw their 19 point deficit reduced to single digits.”

After a quick run by the Battlers, Hancock called a timeout and they were able to get refocused on picking up the intensity defensively. Hancock went on to rebuild their lead, and ultimately came out on top.

Kayne Cameron had a very nice performance for Battle Lake, scoring a team high 17 points and getting several critical stops defensively on Hancock big man Matt Thompson.

The Battlers (1-4) will be back on the road Monday night as they travel to Henning for a 7:15 pm tip off.

Hancock (4-1) will host Hillcrest on Monday.
