Staples-Motley handed Wadena-Deer Creek a 55-51 loss on Tuesday night in high school girls’ basketball competition in Staples. The Wolverines led 28-22 at the half, however, Haley Cichos scored fifteen of her eighteen points in the second half to lead the Cardinals to the win. Lauren Rutten and Tabetha Allen joined Cichos in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Lauryn Gravelle led WDC with 9 points. Nevada Schulz and Kaylin Lupkes contributed 7 points apiece and three players, Corra Endres, Summer Pettit and Madison Packer added 6 points each.
Wadena-Deer Creek (2-3) will host Verndale on Thursday night.
Staples-Motley (2-2) is home against Aitkin on Friday.
