The Willmar girls’ basketball team improved their record to 4-0 with a 63-55 victory over the Fergus Falls Otters on Tuesday night.  The Otters shot just 32% (20-62) from the field and made only 8-of-30 (27%) 3-point field goal attempts in the game.

“Credit Willmar with a great defensive effort, but we really struggled to make our shots,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand.  “Credit the Cardinals also for the way they attacked the basket and the fact they got to the line and shot 24 free throws compared to our 9 attempts.  I liked how hard we worked tonight and congratulations to Tori Ratz on scoring career point number 1000.”

Ratz got her milestone point off a steal and a breakaway layup, finishing with 8 points.  Ellie Colbeck had a team high 16 points, all of which came in the first half.  Logan Strom also had 8 points for the Otters.  Fergus Falls made 8 3’s and hit 7-of-9 free throws.  Colbeck added 12 rebounds for a double-double and just missed a triple-double with 9 assists.

Willmar had four players in double figures, led by Jaida Reiman with 18 and Mackenzie Jones with 17.  Ellary Lange and Samantha Christoffer finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.  The Cardinals hit 18-of-24 free throw attempts.

Fergus Falls (2-2) will host St. Cloud Tech on Friday night.
