Otter Girls Overcome Early Deficit to Defeat Brainerd

Paige Pearson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while dishing out 4 assists as the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team handed Brainerd their first loss of the season, 62-49 on Friday night at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium. 

Ellie Colbeck led all scorers with 24 points, while grabbing 9 rebounds and distributing 3 assists.  Tori Ratz made four 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points.  She also had 4 assists.  Anna Anderson came off the bench to score 9 points. 

Brainerd scored the first eight points of the game and the Otters trailed 10-1 before they went on an eight point run, trimming the Warriors lead to 10-9.  With the Otters leading 14-13 Fergus Falls scored the final fifteen points of the first half to take a 29-13 halftime lead.

The Warriors had three players finish in double digits, led by Meghan Smith with 13 points.  Ally Brzezinski scored a dozen and Myah Nelson had 11.

Fergus Falls hit 42% of their field goal attempts and made 8-of-19 3-pointers.

Fergus Falls (2-1) will play at Willmar on Tuesday night.

The Otters won the JV game 59-58 with Karley Braeger scoring 26 points and Cyntreya Lockett adding 17.  The ninth-graders lost 32-26.
