Parkers Prairie posted a 64-44 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in the season opener and Little Eight Conference opener for both girls’ basketball teams on Thursday night.  The Panthers, who shared the LEC title with Underwood last season, were led by Megan Blake with 18 points.  Ashley Dreger and Faith Alberts joined her in double figures with ten points each.

Mackenzie Foss led the Comets with 20 points and 4 rebounds.  Madi Foss added 8 points and 3 rebounds.  Madi Ballweg had a team high 8 rebounds to go along with 7 points and Ella Knutson chipped in 7 points and grabbed 3 boards.

“I thought we played extremely hard,” said Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest.  The girls played a lot of minutes and fought through the early season fatigue.  Offensively, our guards did a good job attacking the basket and they kept the pressure on Parkers Prairie.  We moved the ball well and I thought we took good, quality shots.  Defensively, we allowed them to get to the basket untouched and we gave up way too many offensive rebounds.  We will need to get better on the defensive end if we are going to win ball games.”

Hillcrest will open their home season on Tuesday, January 19 when they host Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.

Parkers Prairie has a home game against Battle Lake next Tuesday.
