The West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Knights had a great season a year ago, making it to the Section 6A team finals and qualifying five wrestlers for the state tournament. One of the qualifiers, Jordan Lohse, made the state finals in his weight class. Lohse, a senior, is joined by fellow senior Kade Olson, junior Colton Lindquist and sophomore Anthony Sykora as team captains.
Returning letter winners include the four captains, seniors Nathaniel Kisgen and Austin Mattson, juniors Reubens Swsanson, Ashton Danner and Colin Anderson, sophomores Beau Robinson, Tyler Stone, Dierk Goeden, Blake Flint and Justin Blascyk, freshmen Solomon Wales, Jacob Schaffran, Will Rustan, Mason Richter, Grant Lindquist, Carter Lohse, Adam Lohse and Logan Haburn, and eighth-graders Gavin Flint, Hunter Gruchow and Jeremy Blascyk.
Other wrestlers vying for varsity spots include senior Trent Koloski and seventh-graders Logon Long, Ezekiel Sieckert, Sam Olson and Brody Brunkow.
John Weeding, Dan Wales and Troy Lohse will assist Head Coach Brandon Gruchow with the Knights.
“This group is hard working, dedicated and talented,” said Gruchow. “COVID has caused some of us to not be as sharp as we would have liked to start the season. We will have younger, less experienced wrestlers at the start of our lineup.”
Gruchow sees Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie as the top team in Section 6A, while his favorite in the Park Region Conference is Long Prairie/Grey Eagle/Browerville.
