Braaten Scores 4 TD's to Pace Warriors 40-20 Win Over B-E

The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross football team scored the final three touchdowns of the game as they recorded a 40-20 victory over the Brandon-Evansville Chargers on Friday night in Wheaton.

"Hats off to Wheaton, they played a tough physical game and we did not,” said Head Coach Tim Pattrin of Brandon-Evansville.  “We have to come together as a team this week and get ready for a tough Hancock team."

The Warriors compiled 411 yards of offense with 218 yards rushing and 193 yards passing.  They also played turnover free football against the Chargers.  Zach Braaten completed 17-of-29 passes for 193 yards and ran the ball 18 times for 113 yards and 4 TD’s.  Gunner Martinek carried the football 21 times for 76 yards.

Brandon-Evansville had 312 yards of total offense (198 rushing, 114 passing).  They were led by Cade Carlson with 139 yards on 30 rushing attempts.  Kobe Reiland completed 4-of-15 passes for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Kyle Schaffran hauled all four passes for 114 yards and 2 scores.

The Chargers took an 8-0 lead when they scored on a one yard run by Cade Carlson and a two-point conversion run by Carlson with just thirty seconds left in the first quarter.

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross pulled even with ten minutes left in the first half on a 17-yard TD run by Braaten and a two-point conversion pass from Braaten to Martinek.  B-E took a 14-8 lead on a 24 yard pass from Reiland to Schaffran with 7:30 to go in the second quarter.  With 12 seconds left in the half Wheaton/Herman-Norcross scored on a 6-yard run by Braaten and a two-point conversion run by Martinek, taking a 16-14 halftime lead.

Brandon-Evansville regained the lead at 20-16 on a 56 yard pass play from Reiland to Schaffran. A five yard touchdown run by Martinek and two-point conversion run by Braaten put the Warriors back on top, 24-20 with 5:30 left in the third quarter.

A pair of fourth quarter TD runs by Braaten, one of 4 yards and one of 10 yards, sealed the victory.  The Warriors were successful on both two-point conversion tries.
