Cowboys Dominate Rams in 39-6 Win

By halftime the Breckenridge Cowboys were in control of their football game in Roseau, leading the Rams 39-0 on the way to a 39-6 victory on Thursday afternoon.  The Cowboys scored on their first six possessions of the day, accumulating 20 first downs and 312 yards of total offense, with 228 coming on the ground.  The defense held the Rams to 99 total yards and recorded a pair of sacks.

Cooper Yaggie found the end zone on a 3 yard run to give the Cowboys a 6-0 lead and Chris Nieto scored on a 14 yard run, followed by a two-point conversion run to Daniel Erlandson, giving Breckenridge a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

The first of four second quarter TD’s came when Nieto scored on a 6 yard run to put the score at 20-0.  Yaggie then connected with Reece Pederson on a 17 yard touchdown pass and Yaggie added the extra point kick to make it a 27-0 Breckenridge.  Nieto’s third TD came on a 24 yard run, increasing the Cowboys lead to 33-0.  Their final touchdown came on a one yard run by James Mertes.

Roseau scored their only points on a 39 yard TD pass by Danny Wensloff in the third quarter.

Nieto was the leading rusher for the Cowboys with 124 yards on 13 carries.  Yaggie was 6-for-8 passing for 84 yards and Peterson was the leading receiver with 3 catches for 57 yards.

Wensloff completed 7-of-12 passes for 71 yards to lead the Rams.  He also ran for 36 yards on 6 carries.

Breckenridge (2-0) will travel to Barrett for a 7:00pm contest against West Central Area/Ashby (3-0) on Friday night.
