Nieto's Big Day Leads Cowboys Past Roseau

Breckenridge built a 39-0 halftime lead in Roseau on Thursday afternoon and went on to record a 39-6 victory over the Rams.  The Cowboys were led by 124 rushing yards and 3 TDs from Running back Chris Nieto.

Cooper Yaggie scored the first touchdown of the day on a 3 yard run and then missed the extra point kick.  Later in the first quarter Chris Nieto scored on a 14 yard run and Daniel Erlandson ran in the two point conversion, giving the Cowboys a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter Nieto scored his second TD of the night on a 6 yard run, increasing the lead to 20-0.  Yaggie then connected with Reece Peterson on a 17 yard touchdown pass, followed by a Yaggie PAT kick, putting the score at 27-0.  Nieto’s 24 yard TD run resulted in a 33-0 Breckenridge lead and James Mertes concluded the scoring for the Cowboys with a one yard plunge.

Danny Wensloff threw a 39 yard TD pass to get Roseau on the scoreboard in the third quarter.  It was the only touchdown of the second half, putting the final score a 39-6.

Yaggie completed 6-of-8 passes for 84 yards.  Nieto led the rushing attack with 124 yards on 13 carries and Pederson caught three passes for 47 yards to lead the receiving corps.

For Roseau, Wensloff completed 7-of-12 passes for 71 yards and ran for 36 yards on 8 carries.
Breckenridge compiled 312 yards (228 rushing, 84 passing) and recorded 20 first downs.  Roseau had 99 rushing yards and 46 passing yards for a total of 145 yards.

The Cowboys (2-0) will travel to Barrett to face West Central Area/Ashby at 7:00pm Friday, October 23.
