Knights Improve to 2-0 with Win in Home Opener

The West Central Area/Ashby Knights won their home opener and improved to 2-0 on the season with a 24-6 win over Crookston on Friday night in Barrett.

Crookston got on the board with 3:29 left in the opening quarter when Gunnar Gunderson returned a punt 22 yards for a touchdown.  The two-point try failed and the Pirates led 6-0.

West Central Area/Ashby scored with 7:55 left in the half when Jaden Norby ran the ball in from six yards out.  The two-point conversion pass from Evan Paulson to Easton Tangquist was good and the Knights led 8-6.  With just 2:13 remaining in the second quarter the Knights extend their lead to 16-6 when Norby ran the ball in from the 3 yard line and then was on the receiving end of a two-point conversion throw from Paulson.

In the fourth quarter Anthony Sykora scored on a 5-yard run and Paulson connected with Ryder Staples on the two-point try, putting the final at 24-6.

The Knights finished with 217 yards rushing and 59 yards passing for a total of 276 yards.  Crookston had 117 rushing yards and 15 passing yards, for a total of 132 yards of offense.

Individually, Paulson was 4-for-8 throwing the football for 59 yards.  His leading receiver was Sykora with 2 catches for 8 yards.  Jaden Norby (1-26) and Tate Christenson (1-25) hauled in the other two completions.  Sykora had 53 rushing yards on 15 carries, Norby ran for 47 yards on 13 touches and Jordan Lohse had 40 yards on 8 carries.  Defensively, Jaden Norby accounted for 7.5 tackles.  Mattson Hoff had 5.5 and Tyler Stone 4.5.  Lohse had the only interception of the night

Ethan Boll led Crookston with 65 yards on 15 rushing attempts.  Zach Brown had their only reception for 15 yards.  Cade Deleon had 8.5 tackles to lead the defensive effort.
