The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team opened their season against the Underwood Rockets at home on Thursday night, defeating the visitors in four sets, 25-14, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19.

“The girls have been excited all week to be back in the gym playing and it showed tonight,” said B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson. “Our focus and energy were front and center during our first set. With limited fans in the gym we knew that our communication and energy both on the court and the bench needed to be a priority as well as making serves. Those goals were met in the first set with a 25-14 win in our favor. Unfortunately the second set saw our serving percentage drop to 73% which made it hard to capitalize on our kills and get points to add up. We knew going into the third set that in order to string points together and get back to where we were our serving needed to get back to where it was in the first set. The girls tightened up the focus and were able to rally to bring the game score to 2-1. Our final adjustments on the court seemed to settled in during the fourth set where the scramble and effort from all the girls turned into a final set win of 25-19. We now will focus on our next match this coming Monday, against Parkers Prairie.”

Kill leaders for the Chargers were Bailey Schaefer with 19, Kylee Dingwall with 9 and Mikenna Pattrin with 8.  Schaefer also had a team high 11 digs and Gretchen Bredberg added 8.  Korrie Randt served up 5 aces and distributed 39 set assists.  Bredberg (12/13), Pattrin (18/19) and Randt (21/22) were the serving leaders for B-E.

Brooke Hovland led Underwood with 19 kills and Brianna Evavold led the team with 13 digs.

“We are happy to have the first game out of the way and excited to see where we can go from here,” said Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “We struggled at the line serving and had many streaks of weak passing.  B-E has a very strong attack and at times we struggled with their big hitters.  Although the outcome wasn’t want we had hoped for, we had some really bright spots in our match.”
