At Pine Ridge on Thursday, October 1, the Ashby-Brandon-Evansville Cross Country teams faced some great runners in a triangular against Park Rapids and Pillager.   Park Rapids won the boys’ varsity race with 18 points.  A-B-E was second with 40 and Pillager third with 85.  On the girls’ side, Pillager won the varsity competition with 18 points and Ashby-Brandon-Evansville was second with 44.

“The girls’ team ran hard,” commented A-B-E Head Coach Robert Bosma. “We talk at practice about chasing down goals during a race and Pillager girls provided that for us. With that in mind, many of the girls had personal bests. Cailey Schlosser ran strong and chased down a pack of girls the entire race. She has been pushing for a goal all year and keeps getting closer each race. Lucea Wales also had a great race and looked very comfortable. She started strong and continued throughout the race. She is starting to learn more of how to race for herself.”

Here are the varsity girls’ individual results by team:
Pillager
1. Emma Reeder 22:21, 2. Lindy Cordes 22:45, 4. Elsie Turner 24:12, 5. Kylee Wilson 24:36, 6. Ava Swanberg 25:05, 7. Sienna Swanberg 25:9, 9. Ally Smith 25:45

“On the guys’ side, the JV again pushed the tempo for the varsity to match,” reported Coach Bosma. “Also, Park Rapids had a very fast team that pushed our top guys. Hunter Norby found himself running down a pack of runners. This sped him up to run his fastest time of the year.

Many of the other guys ran and competed with each other. Logan Froemming and Wes Siira raced the last half mile against each other and it shows their competitive edge. As a whole, the entire team is pushing to improve and we should continue to see the times drop this week and next.”
