Fergus Falls finished the football season with a 5-5 record a year ago. The Otters graduated several key players from that team, but also have a solid nucleus of returning letter winners. Coach Steve Olson admits there are some question marks heading into the season, “We are excited to have a season in the fall! We will need to settle on a quarterback and help him develop throughout the season. We have some experience back on the offensive line and that is always a positive. Defensively, we will need to fill some key spots and learn our reads and tackle well.”
Returning letter winners include seniors Jack Vogl (OL/DL), Jack Uhrich (OL/LB), Dom Aguilar (WR/DB), Abel Aho (WR/DB), Kaden Hartwell (RB/DB), Bryce Burrill (TE/DL), and juniors Lucas Oliphant (OL/DL), Luke Newman (WR/DB), Carter Thielke (WR/DB), Landon Thacker (RB/LB) and Cole Zierden (WR/DB).
It is expected that senior Austin Rinke (TE/DB), juniors Owen Babolian (WR/DB) and Andrew Johnson (QB/LB), and sophomores Jordan Sitagata (OL/DL) and Alex Jensen (OL/DL) will be in the mix for extensive varsity playing time.
Olson will be assisted by Shane Thielke, Kevin Pearson, Keith Pearson, Josh Steer, Judah Burlingame, Ike Carlson and Matt Johnson.
Perham, Pequot Lakes, Detroit Lakes and DGF will all be challenging for the Section 8AAA and Midwest Red District titles.
