The Barnesville Trojans only lost one football game last season.  It happened to be in the state semifinals to eventual champion Caledonia.  The Trojans will try to build off that tremendous season as they begin 2020 with a solid nucleus of returning starters and letter winners, but without some impact players who graduated last spring.  Hunter Zenzen (Iowa State) and Connor Morse (Concordia) are both continuing to play football at the collegiate level.  They also lost Matt Samuelson, Jackson Wahl and Hunter Anderson.

“We lost a great group of seniors,” stated Head Coach Bryan Strand, who is now in his sixteenth season leading the Trojans.  “We had a great off-season lifting program and the boys have gotten bigger and better because of it.  Lots of key players are back from a successful team last year and we have a few young faces in the mix for varsity playing time.  We need to stay healthy and I think we can have a good year.”

Returning starters are seniors Adam Tonsfeldt (QB/DB), Joey Mark (E/OLB), Brady Kroll (T/DE), Eric Ackerson (C/DT) and Aaron Schiefert (FB/LB), juniors Noah Krause (RB/DB), Cameron Heng (RB/DB) and Kaden Zenzen (E/DE), and sophomore Jonny Robideau (G/LB).

Players expected to contribute at the varsity level are juniors Peyton Pauna (RB/DB) and Ryan Martinson (E/LB), sophomores Braeden Bredman (RB/DB), Spencer Schumacher (OL/DL) and Tim Wells (OL/DL), and freshman Justin Krueger (OL/DL).

Tonsfeldt, Mark, Kroll and Ackerson will serve as team captains.

Phill Trowbridge, Nathan Strand, Nick Paur, Scott Snobl, Ace Gregg and Dain Biewer will assist Coach Strand.

Strand says Breckenridge is the top challenger in the Midwest District (White), while Pelican Rapids and Hawley will join the Trojans as favorites in Section 8AA.
