The Perham boys and girls cross country teams hosted #1 Staples and #6 Pequot Lakes for the last regular season Triangular on Wednesday. It was a great battle between 3 great teams on a very windy day, but all the runners from all 3 teams had great performances.

The girls kicked off the day in the varsity races. The Perham girls lost to Pequot Lakes in their first showing and Wednesday they were able to flip the script. The girls were 2nd overall winning on the tiebreaker over Pequot Lakes with their 6th runner beating Pequot Lakes 6th runner. Leading the way for the Jackets was Mya Morris once again running a season best 20:24 and finishing 7th overall. Kaia Starzl and Gracie Morris followed closely behind rounding out the top three runners for the Jackets finishing 8th and 9th. Quincy Anderson and Liz Birkeland were just outside the Top 10 finishing 11th and 12th overall and rounding out the top 5. Aspen Rhode and Mia Lung were 14th and 15th completing the Top 7 for the Jacket lineup. “This was our best race of the season and we are staring to find ourselves,” commented Head Coach Jeff Morris. “Our JV girls really set the tone for our varsity girls as almost every girl in our JV lineup posted season bests. This really gave our varsity girls momentum before their race even started. We are super excited to see how much we can improve these next few weeks.”

The Girls JV finished 1st overall with a perfect score of 15 with 7th grader LeeLou Novotny winning the JV girls race running 22:22. The girls JH was 2nd overall with Addison Dilly finishing 2nd overall running 14:21.

On the boys side the guys gave #2 Staples-Motley a run for their money just finishing 8 points behind the Cardinals. Jakob McCleary in his 2nd race back after missing a week from sickness finished 2nd overall running his season best of 16:47. Also positing top 10 finishes was Carson Hespe and Micah Thompson running 16:57 and 17:32. Rounding out the top 6 for the boys was the 3 underclassmen (1 9th grader and 2 8th graders) Caden Doll, Carter Flatau, and Bjorn Anderson all running closer to personal bests. Aiden Kennedy ran number 7 for the Jackets today finishing 18th overall and running a personal best of 18:52. “We are really excited for the boys because we know that there are spots that if we hold off a runner or maybe pass one more we are going to be tough to compete against as we are making jumps,” noted Morris.

The JV boys won the team title with Broday Evenson finishing 2nd overall. The Perham boys’ junior high finished first with Blake Swenson leading the way finishing 2nd overall.

The Perham Jackets will host the HOL Conference next Wednesday in Arvig Park.
