Crookston struck first when Cassie Solheim scored just over 13 minutes into the match.  Two minutes later Chloe Paulson setup Villagomez with a nice pass into the slot and Ariana deposited the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the equalizer.  The game remained 1-1 until six minutes remained when Villagomez scored on a header to hand the Vikings a 2-1 lead which stood up for their third win of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Grace Haugrud was strong in the net throughout the game and senior Tatiana Wiley was spectacular after being moved back to defense, providing excellent coverage in front of the Vikings net and spoiling many opportunities for the Pirates in the attack area.

Pelican Rapids (3-5) will host Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at noon on Saturday with the boys’ game between the Vikings and Comets to follow at 2:00pm.
