The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville Cross Country teams ran at Double Eagle Golf Course in Eagle Bend against Wadena Deer Creek and Bertha Hewitt on Thursday, September 24.  A-B-E won the boys race with 32 points, followed by Bertha-Hewitt with 48 and WDC with 51.  The Wolverines claimed the first four places in the girls’ competition, recording a winning score of 17.  A-B-E was second with 40 points.  Bertha-Hewitt did not have a complete girls’ team.

“A-B-E had another solid day for a cross country meet,” commented Head Coach Robert Bosma.  “The weather was terrific and the runners were amped for a new course. The Junior High runners started the meet with fantastic finishes. Both Colton Breitkreutz and Kaleb Fuglseth had close finishes against other runners. When our junior high runners compete by sprinting at the finish to hold off other runners, our varsity takes note and it gets them excited for the competition.”

Bosma continued, “In the varsity races, we continue to see our times drop and about half the runners had PRs for the night. Hannah Korkowski ran a great race with her eyes on Lucea Wales the majority of the race. For only being a seventh grader, her competitiveness really makes a difference in how she runs. Lucea also ran great as she was pushed for most of the race. She fell into a pack with some other girls, which really pushed her to run great.”

Here are the individual varsity girls’ results by team:

“In the boys’ varsity race, Hunter Norby found himself for the second time this year chasing guys from another team,” reported Coach Bosma. “Right now, it’s a good time for him to be chasing someone. With Conference being next week and Sections coming after that, it is good to give him a chip on his shoulder to push through. Micah Fossell and Logan Froemming have both had goals of breaking the 19-minute mark this season. Micah succeeded and Logan was very close. We should see them continue to improve the next couple weeks. With the season getting close to the end, it’s good to see how the team is still improving and haven’t peaked yet.”
