The Border West Buccaneers competed in the Canby-Minneota Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.  They were joined by runners from Ortonville and Russel-Tyler-Ruthton.

Canby-Minneota won the boys’ race with a score of 27, six in front of Ortonville (33).  Border West registered 63 points and RTR had 101.

“We raced against RTR at Canby and it's tough to go for time when there is such a big spread of runners,” commented Border West Head Coach Brittany Erickson.  “Our lead runners struggled because they got out in front right away and ran a bit too relaxed since they didn't have people around.  Our middle runners did extremely well and shaved over between 30 seconds to a full minute off their previous times.  Conner Goodhart ran 1:03 faster, Eli Larson ran 31 seconds faster, Cole Sykora and Derek Lupkes have been consistent for us during their races.  We've been doing a lot of long-distance sprint/speed workouts and so it was great to see that effort carry over to the meet.”

Here are the individual boys’ varsity results for Border West.
6. Joe Arens 19:04, 12. Derek Lupkes 20:17, 20. Conner Goodhart 21:18, 21. Cole Sykora 21:25, 23. Eli Larson 21:44, 29. Jens Jorgenson 22:51, 33. Jakob Adelman 23:54

Ortonville individual results are as follows.

“On the girls' side, Emily Franzese had a PR for the season with her time,” reported Coach Erickson of the Buccaneers.  “We had Lilly Stueve back with us after being out with an injury at the beginning of the season, so it was awesome to see her in a Bucs uniform again.”

Canby-Minneota had a near perfect score of 16 and Border West recorded a score of 43.  Elly Anderson was the only Ortonville runner in the race, placing eighth with a time of 23:53.

“I was extremely pleased with our Junior High runners,” added Erickson. “They go all out when it comes to race time.  Leighton Frye set the tone for us with Drew Sykora and Lucas Gahlon right behind him. We have some solid Junior High girl runners that have been consistently placing well for us.  Addison Blume is always one of our top runners followed by Karter MartinekClaire Rinke and Faith Gahlon are first-year runners and they have consistently gotten faster as well.  We have such a great group of kids out who put in a lot of effort.”
