The Willmar Cardinals hosted Fergus Falls and St. Cloud Tech in a Central Lakes Conference Cross Country Triangular on Tuesday.  Willmar won the girls’ event with 18 points as their top five runners finished in the top 7.  Fergus Falls was second with 56 and Tech third with 68.  Willmar did not field a complete team on the boys’ side, although they had their four runners finish in the top seven.  St. Cloud Tech scored 24 points and Fergus Falls had 34 in the team competition.

“We raced in really hot conditions tonight,” said Fergus Falls Girls’ Head Coach Niki Welde. “This was some of the hottest weather we have even trained in.  This fall has been pretty mild for training and competing, so tonight’s conditions made racing tough.”

Emily Nuss placed in the top 10 for the Otters with a 6th place finish. Ainsley Hansen was the second Fergus Falls runner to cross the finish line.  Sierra Hatlewick, Julia Anderson and Rebecca Schindler rounded out our top 5.

“Willmar is a top team in the conference,” noted Welde.  “They stood out as the top team tonight. The Otter ladies bested St. Cloud Tech for second place.  I’m proud of how our Otters raced in tough conditions with great attitudes.”
