On Tuesday the Fergus Falls tennis team traveled to St. Cloud to take on the Apollo/Sauk Rapids- Rice Collision in a dual.  The Otters topped the Collision 6-1.

“We had a good showing throughout the lineup tonight,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Jamie Lill.  “Ellie Colbeck and Madison Anderson both cruised for their second straight wins each.  Wins like this shouldn´t be taken lightly as first and second singles are tough spots to fill in a varsity lineup.  Both girls have upped their service games and are stroking the ball well.  Isabella Abrahams dropped a tough match at third singles and Mia Marsh earned a tough victory at fourth.  Mia played a very back-and-forth first set, earning it 6-4, before dominating her second set 6-1.  Mia does a nice job of just being consistent.  She keeps the ball in play and doesn’t force things that aren´t there.”

In doubles action, the first doubles team of Ava Weber and Leila Nasri earned their second straight tight win with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory.  “Ava and Leila did a nice job of staying mentally tough tonight,” observed Lill.  “Their match lacked rhythm, which can make it hard to find your groove and stay up with intensity, but the girls dug in and held out for the win.”

At second doubles, Paige Pearson and Mackenzie Krava won their first set easily at 6-1, before finding themselves down 0-3 in the second.  The duo rallied their way back into the set and found themselves in a second set tie-breaker.  They did a nice job of staying mentally tough and played smart tennis in the breaker, winning it 7-3.  “Paige and Mackenzie played some gutsy tennis to stay in and eventually win that second set,” noted Lill.

In third doubles action, Hannah Prody and Ashtyn Lill won their third straight match 6-1, 6-1.  “Hannah and Ashtyn just played consistently and did a nice job of being the aggressors on the court,” stated Lill.  “Things go well for them when Ashtyn puts the ball where she is supposed to and Hannah gets big at the net and finishes points, which is exactly what they did tonight. This was a great night of tennis for our girls.  Getting these couple of team wins in a row is a big confidence boost for our team.”

Fergus Falls also found a lot of success on the JV side of things.  Lily Chamoun, Amber Anderson, Lexy Samuelson and Bianca Castro all earned singles victories, while Cyntreya Lockett/Ava Hastings earned wins in doubles action.

The Otters play host to Rocori on Thursday night at 4:30pm at Broadway Park.
