Breckenridge split with Ada-Borup in a Senior Babe Ruth double header on Thursday.  After losing the first game 7-6 in 11 innings, Breck came back to win the second game 4-1.

League leading Ada jumped on the board in the first inning scoring 4 runs, off two Breckenridge errors. But, Breckenridge didn’t quit and scored 3 of their own in the 2nd and two more in the 3rd to take the lead. Ada tied the game 5-5 in the 5th but Breck scored 1 in the bottom of the 6th to take a 6-5 lead. Breck was unable to close the game out in the top of the 7th as Ada tied the game 6-6. The game remained tied until Ada scored a run in the top of the 11th when they singled to start the inning. The runner moved to second on an errant throw from the pitcher to 1st base while trying to hold the runner. The runner moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a two out single.

“It was a tough way to give up that run in the 11th but we played with a lot of heart in game one and had unlimited opportunities to score, stranding 10 runners through the first 7 innings and picking up 15 hits,” reported Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “We just couldn’t find the two out hit when we needed it to put the game away and pick up the win.”

Breck had numerous players with multiple hits led by Jeremy Stack with 3, Carson Hought, Jace Hegge, Jack Aigner, Jake Wendorff and Max Johnson all had multiple hits as well in game one.

“Our pitchers have been getting better and better every week,” added Hiedeman. “Emmit Vig started and threw 8 innings striking out 5 and walking one before he reached the maximum pitch count. Carter Haugen threw the remaining 3 innings striking out two, walking one.”

After that heartbreaking loss Breck was the visiting team for game two and came out and scored one run in the top of the 1st and added 3 more in the top of the 2nd. Ada was able to score one run in the 3rd for the final run of the 4-1 game.

Haugen continued on the mound from Game 1 and threw 4 2/3 striking out 8 and walking one. Jace Hegge recorded the final out of the game striking out one batter.

“Vig and Haugen were outstanding tonight,” exclaimed Hiedeman. “Jack Aigner put in a gutty performance catching both games. We were missing 4 players tonight and had some kids playing out of their typical positions and they all did great. Obviously we would’ve like to win both games but we are playing good baseball right now, doing a lot of things right. Next week doesn’t get any easier with 7 more games on the schedule. If we can continue to play at this level we should find ourselves in a pretty good position come playoffs the first week of August.”
