Fergus Falls hosted Detroit Lakes 19U at Legion Field on Thursday night. Fergus Falls won the first game 4-3, but dropped the second game 8-6 in extra innings.

Carter Thielke started on the mound in game one and threw a complete game (7 IP, 7H, 3R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K).

Nic Pearson (2-4, RB), Michael Wiederich (2-4), and Jaydon Ollila (2-4)led the offense in game one.

Fergus Falls jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three with a single run in the second and third innings. “Carter Thielke did a great job of using his lead and getting ahead of hitters,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson. “Carter threw first pitch strike on 20 of 28 hitters. Any time you can have a pitcher not walk a batter he’s doing his job and will win you a lot of ball games.”

Dustin Duenow started on the mound in game two (3 IP, 9H, 5R, 3ER, 2K, 3BB). Brock Kotschevar came into a jam in the 4th inning (5 IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 4K).

Nic Pearson (2-3, 3B) and Kotschevar (1-3, RBI) led the offense.

“Game two we lacked the details and execution needed to win,” stated Larson. “Pitching wise we threw way too many 0-2 strikes. We need to expand the zone when we are ahead and let the hitters get themselves out. Give DL credit they had a nice approach, but mentally we need to be much sharper.”

Fergus Falls hosts Moorhead next Tuesday before traveling to Parkers Praire on Thursday for a double header.
