The Breckenridge Senior Babe Ruth team is playing their best baseball of the year right now. They took that momentum into the first game of their double header against Ashby on Tuesday night and picked up a 10-2 victory.

Breck scored three runs in the first inning on a lead-off walk by Emmit Vig, and a single by Jeremy Stack followed by a Connor Twidwell double off the fence scoring 2 runs. Brayden Wahl singled and Twidwell scored on an Ashby error.

Breck blew the game open scoring 6 runs in the second inning. Jack Aigner led the inning off with a single and Jake Wendorff walked. Vig laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Stack walked scoring Aigner. Carson Hought was hit by pitch scoring Stack and Twidwell capped off the inning with a Grand Slam home run. Twidwell pitched all 7 innings striking out 6, only walking 1 batter and giving up 5 hits. Breckenridge was perfect defensively for the second game in a row.

Game two was only a 5 inning game per league rules and it was a pitchers dual. The score remained 0-0 through 3 innings before Ashby scored the first run in the top of the 4th. Breckenridge had two outs and had an infield ground ball and made their first error in three games. The following batter hit a two out ground ball that found a hole to score the first run of the game.

Breck had their chances with runners on second and third and one out with the top of the order up but failed to get the base hit they needed. The 5th inning was scoreless ending the game with a 1-0 loss. Cooper Yaggie pitched 4 innings, striking out 6, walking one. Emmit Vig came in to pitch the 5th inning striking out one batter.

“It’s disappointing to lose that second game because overall we played really well but in games like that it usually comes down to one or two plays,” commented Breckenridge Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “Tonight they got the big two out hit and we didn’t and that was the difference in the game but overall I’m really happy the way we are playing right now.”

Breckenridge will have their hands full on Thursday as they play another double header at home vs conference leading Ada. “It will be a challenge on our pitching staff as this will be our 4th and 5th games in 4 days and we are missing 4 players due to other commitments Thursday night,” noted Hiedeman.
