Breckenridge picked up a Senior Babe Ruth conference win with a 10-5 victory over Pelican Rapids on Friday.  Emmit Vig earned the win pitching 6 innings allowing 5 runs (only 2 of them earned) on 6 hits and striking out 4.

Breck jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the first inning when Jeremy Stack singled, stole 2nd base and scored on a base hit by Brayden Wahl.  Breck added 5 more runs in the 2nd with two outs and no one when Jake Wendorff was hit by a pitch, Derrick Zietlow walked, Wendorff scored on a single by Vig, Stack walked, Carson Hought singled scoring Zietlow and Vig. Wahl picked up his 2nd hit of the night scoring Stack and Hought scored on a wild pitch.

With a score of 10-5 Cooper Yaggie came on in relief in the 7th inning striking out 2 of 3 batters.

“This was Cooper’s first game back after his injury and he looked great,” assessed Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “One thing we’ve been lacking in conference play has been a closer to come in and hold a lead. Cooper performed that role perfectly tonight.”

Offensively Breck outhit Pelican 9-6 led by Wahl and Stack each with 2 hits. Wendorff, Jonah Friederichs, Connor Twidwell, Hought and Vig each had hits in the game.

Breckenridge hosts DGF on Monday at 6:30pm.
