The Fergus Falls 13U baseball team hosted the Breckenridge Cowboys Wednesday night at the MState baseball field and came out on top in both ends of the twin bill.

In game one, the Otters took advantage of some wildness by the Cowboy pitchers as they amassed 15 walks.  When the pitchers did come into the strike zone, the Otters were able to capitalize with some timely hits.  After all was said and done, the home team was victorious 22-5.  The Otters put up crooked numbers in each of the four innings they were at the plate as the game was called after 4 1/2 innings due to the 10 run rule. The home team scored 5 runs in the first inning, 4 runs in the second, 8 runs in the third, and 5 runs in the fourth to finish with their highest run total of the season.

The Otters were led at the plate by Alex Ellison as the first baseman collected three of the team's eight hits and drove in four runs.  Other Otters that collected hits were Aikhem Bethel, Logan Larson, Levi King, Andrew Klinnert, and Luke Pearson.  Besides Ellison's four RBI, other hitters to drive in runs included Bethel (1), Carston Fronning (2), King (2), Brock Scheuerman (3), Pearson (1), Jaden Miller (1), Isaac Ellison (1), and Isaac Iverson (1).

"I thought we showed great patience at the plate today," said Coach Kevin Pearson.  "Their pitchers struggled a bit with control and we didn't chase balls out of the strike zone too often.  Then, when they threw strikes, I thought we put aggressive swings on the ball.  To have 23 total at bats and only 2 strikeouts is pretty impressive this early in the season!"

Isaac Ellison started on the mound.  He pitched 2 innings.  He only allowed one hit and 4 runs, but only one of those was earned.  He struck out 3 batters and walked 6.  Fronning pitched the final 2 innings.  He gave up one run on two hits.  He struck out 3 and walked 2 batters.

As was the case in the first doubleheader of the season, the length of game one caused game two to be shortened.  The Otters were able to complete the sweep with a 5-2 victory in four innings.  Although the home team was outhit 5-2, they were once again able to capitalize on the Cowboys' inability to throw strikes consistently.  The Otter hitters were able to earn 10 walks.  Fronning and Isaac Ellison were the only batsmen to collect a hit in the second game. Aiden Schake was able to reach each time he was up to bat as he coaxed two hard earned walks.  Fronning was the lone hitter to collect an RBI.

Bethel pitched 3 innings to earn the victory. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits.  He struck out 4 and walked 2.  Alex Ellison pitched a scoreless 4th to earn the save.  He didn't allow a hit, struck out 2, and didn't give up any walks.

" Coach Steve King and I were much happier about tonight's games compared to our first two games," added Coach Pearson.  "Yes we were able to come out on top, but it was more than that.  The boys seemed like they were into the games more, we made more plays in the field, we looked more confident at the plate, and our pitchers threw more strikes. All in all, it was a great night of baseball."

The 13U team will be back in action on Monday night as they host a very talented West Fargo Spikes team in a double header starting at 5:30 at the MState baseball field.
