Fergus Falls (U19) traveled to Moorhead for a double header, losing 8-2 in the opener and 1-0 in 8 innings in the second game.

Jaydon Ollila started game one and took the loss, (5IP, 4H, 7R, 6ER, 4BB, 2K). Ian Stumbo pitched the 6th.

Leading hitters for Fergus were Brock Kotschevar 2-4, Ollila 1-3,RBI, and Carter Thielke 1-2.

Fergus Falls jumped out to a 1-0 after one inning with Kotschevar leading off with a single to right, and coming around to score on a wild pitch. Moorhead found their bats in the bottom half of the third when they scored 6 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.

Carter Thielke started on the mound in game two and went 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, 3 walks and striking out four batters. Matt Scott (6IP, 3H, 1R, 3K, 5BB) threw fantastic in relief and took the loss.

Michael Wiederich (1-2, RBI), led the offense for Fergus Falls. Nic Pearson, Abel Aho, Ian Stumbo and Jaydon Ollila all had one hit.

Fergus threatened with runners on first and third and one out in the 3rd and 5th innings but couldn’t get the job done. Fergus Falls had runners on second and third in the 7th but struck out.

Moorhead singled to lead off the 8th, moved over to second on a bunt, and with one out laced a walk off single to right field to score the only run of the game.

“Game one was much closer than the score indicated,” assessed Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson. “The difference was when Moorhead got runners on base they figured a way to get them in. They weren’t always pretty or hard hit, but they found a way to get it done and we didn’t. Matt Scott was fantastic in relief today. We once again knew we needed guys to step up and eat innings so we could still have guys left for this weekends’ tournament in Jamestown. Not only did Matt eat valuable innings but he showed lots of guts and heart and gave us a great chance to win.”

Fergus Falls returns to actions on Friday in Jamestown at 11am and 1 pm.
