The Breckenridge Senior Babe Ruth team suffered its first conference loss on Wednesday night, falling to Hawley 10-6.

“We gave up 10 runs on 5 hits and only one error,” reported Breckenridge Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “That pretty much tells the story. We threw 4 different pitchers on the night over 6 innings and walked 11 batters and hit a 12th batter. It doesn’t matter at what level of baseball you play from Cal Ripken to the major leagues, you can’t put 12 men on base and expect to win which is what we did tonight.”

Despite that, Breckenrdige still had several opportunities.  With bases loaded in the 5th they hit into a double play. After scoring 3 runs in the 6th and with men on first and 3rd they fell for a hidden ball trick at first base for the third out that took them out of that inning and then a mental mistake on the bases led to a player getting doubled-up.

Breckenridge also walked 8 times in the game and outhit Hawley 6-5, led by Emmit Vig and Brayden Wahl with two hits each. Carson Hought and Jake Wendorff each had one hit.

“Overall, it was a very poorly played game by both teams and now we need to get back on track when we host Brandon-Evansville/WCA at 6:30pm on Thursday,” said Hiedeman.
