Cecilia George is a senior student-athlete at Frazee-Vergas high school.  Her sport of choice throughout her days with the Hornets is softball, which means this spring she hasn’t been able to enjoy her senior season of competition due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I was looking forward to some big moments on the field during my senior year, especially since softball is the only sport that I am in,” acknowledged George.  “I tell myself that this is the most unique experience that anyone is going to go through, which makes it better.  I also have been going on a lot of bike rides and doing puzzles.”

George, who lists Government and Sociology classes as her favorites in high school, is planning on attending the University of Minnesota to major in Business Marketing and minor in Advertising.

Frazee Softball Coach Matt Bauer on George, “Ceclilia plays a technically sound first base and has grown at the position over the last 2 years.  She has great reflexes for the quick shots back at her making the plays look easy.  Cecilia is somebody that works really hard and gives her 100%.  She is a good teammate that is always keeping herself and teammates in the game and is the first to celebrate a teammate’s success.  It has been a pleasure to coach her for the last 8 years and she will be missed.”

As for her top softball memories George said, “I am a first baseman, so I had to stretch for a ball one time and went into the splits.  I will also always remember the bus rides and stopping at DQ after every game because our coach would be ‘hangry’.”

“Being involved in a sport allowed me to make long-lasting friendships and step out of my box to try new things,” added George.  “My advice to underclassmen is that Excuses will always be there for you. Opportunities won’t.”
