Graduating senior Jayden Wiertzema was a part of the cross country team at Breckenridge High School.  While in the classroom he favored Social Studies, Government and Economics as top subjects.

Jayden is undecided as to a college major, but plans on going to NDSCS in Wahpeton to get his generals and then continue a college education following graduation from NDSCS.

“I did not try out for cross country until I was a junior in high school,” related Wiertzema.  “Although I regret joining later in my high school career, I really found a love for running during my season.  I met a lot of new people in my sport and I still run regularly to this day.  My top sports memories include running in muddy conditions in Thief River Falls and doing ‘sweet and simples’ in Cross Country practice.  This would have been my first year participating in track, so I am still having a hard time with having no season.”

“Jayden turned out to be a key runner on our team his senior year in our #4 and #5 spot,” commented Breckenridge Head Coach Larry Lasch. “As a senior he really blossomed as a leader and competitor.  His toughness as a runner stood out at our sectional race as he posted his season best time on a mildly sprained ankle.   I wish he were back for one more season.”

Jayden has some advice for underclassmen, “Don’t wait until the last years’ of your high school career to try out new extracurricular activities!”
