The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team took third place in the tough Section 8AA tournament last spring and showed vast improvement from their previous season as three or four Otter golfers scored in the 80’s in multiple tournaments during the year.

“In one tournament we had a score in the 70’s,” reported Coach Ben Jurgens, now in his sixth season leading the team.  “As a team our fifth place finish in the Central Lakes Conference was an improvement and the girls worked extremely hard.  Our team finish in Section 8AA was outstanding!  The girls were very proud of themselves and should have been as it was a great tournament for our team.  It was very exciting to see Greta Christenson make it to the state tournament.  She played so well at sections and continued to play well at state.”

Christenson, Amy Johnson and Mady Eklund were all lost to graduation, but the Otters return captains Lexi McGary and Kenzy Braeger, and Ellia Soydara.  Coach Jurgens will be looking for varsity contributions from Annika Jyrkas, Ella Mayer and Annie Mayer.

“We are excited for the season,” said Jurgens.  “We lost 3 or 4 of our top 6 scorers from last year so we will be a little young and inexperienced, but that allows someone else to get a chance and gain experience.”

Jurgens says Brainerd and Alexandria are the top teams in the CLC, while Perham and Crookston are the teams to beat in Section 8AA.

Amber Hovland and Elizabeth Abrahams will serve as Assistant Coaches.
