Underwood hosted Hillcrest on Tuesday night in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball game which the Comets won 67-62.  The game was tied at halftime, 30-30.

Evan Gould (17 points, 4 assists, 2 steals), Sam Brumfield (14 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds) and Joel Quam (10 points, 3 rebounds) were all in double figures for the Comets.  Micah Foss led the team with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

“Tonight we played without Thomas Zwiers who was out sick,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “Although we as coaches thought that our defensive execution was very mediocre, I think a night like this exposes some glaring, but fixable elements of our team game. Thomas makes everyone else a better defender. So we have some work to do in regards to our defensive rotations and also how we defend the post. But we got some big minutes tonight from Jowell Seymour off the bench. Even though he only had one, I think he did a great job going to the boards for us. He's just so active. He handled the ball down the stretch and got a couple of timely looks. James Cho also played some good minutes for us in the post. Canaan Kugler and Winston Heifort did a good job in the paint for Underwood and I thought Cho at least made life a little more difficult for those guys tonight in the final 8 or 10 minutes.”

Leaders for Underwood were Heifort (19 points, 12 rebounds), Kugler (18 points, 8 rebounds) and Krosby Aasness (15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists).  Aasness made 7-of-9 free throws in the game.  Braden Thorson dished out a team high 9 assists.

"We battled all the way to the final buzzer tonight in a very hard fought battle,” stated Underwood Head Coach Evan Meece.  “Neither team had a lead of more than 5 points in the game and both teams battled back and forth.  I'm proud of the way that we played and played well as a team.  Unfortunately a few bounces didn't go our way and we weren't able to pull out the win."
