The West Central Area Lady Knights met the Underwood Rockets in Morris to take part in the Pheasant Conference Showcase.  The game started out back and forth and then the Knights went on a run to lead 18-10.  The Rockets would battle back and cut the lead to 26-25 at halftime.  The second half was a battle with both teams going on several runs of their own, but late in the second half the Knights opened up the lead to 50-39.  Then the Rockets went on a run of their own and cut the lead to 56-53 with 12 seconds to play. The Knights made a free throw and came up with a big defensive play to finish the game with a win.  The final was 57-53 at the end of the game.

“Something that makes us special as a team is the fact we all do little things to make us successful.  The girls won’t get recognition from the media or most casual fans for doing the things that make us successful.  Guarding the other teams’ best player and putting every ounce of effort into shutting her down.  Setting others up on offense with a screen or pass, or even by simply positioning yourself correctly so the defense has to make a choice.  Boxing out the nearest threat so our team can secure the rebound.  Pushing the players that get all the minutes to be better in practice by not taking it easy on them, and that’s not easy to do because it is easy to be complacent.  Communicating with teammates and coaches during games, and even telling them what they are seeing.  These things are all what makes our team special and I truly appreciate everyone’s efforts,” stated WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer.

The Rockets (15-6) saw their twelve game winning streak come to an end.  They will play at Ashby on Monday night.

West Central Area (16-6) will travel to Twin Valley on Tuesday for a matchup with Norman Country East/Ulen-Hitterdal.
