Three Goal First Period Carries River Lakes to 4-1 Win Over Otter Boys

River Lakes scored three first period goals on the way to a 4-1 victory over Fergus Falls in Central Lakes Conference boys’ hockey action on Thursday night at the Paynesville Arena.

Joel Sowada got the scoring started at 7:35 of the opening period with assists from Abe Bullard and Blake Blattner.  At 12:16 River Lakes took a 2-0 lead when Robert Holmquist scored off an assist from Ethan HowardBrady Olson made it a 3-0 lead for the home team at 14:22, from Bennett Bjerke and Nick Rutledge.

The second period was scoreless and Fergus Falls got on the board at 1:58 of the third when Cole Zierden found the back of the net from Michael DeBrito and Isaac Young.  River Lakes completed the scoring at 11:35 of the period when Rutledge scored from Dillon Pulsifer.

Fergus Falls goalie Ben Swanson stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced, while Fergus Falls had 26 shots on goal in the game.

Fergus Falls (10-11-1) will host Alexandria on Monday night.
