Otter Boys Score First Six Goals in 7-2 Win Over Sartell

Fergus Falls led 3-0 after one period, 5-0 after two periods and 7-2 when the final horn sounded on Thursday night at the Community Ice Arena in Fergus Falls.  The Otters improved their season record to 6-9-1 with their Central Lakes Conference win over Sartell-St. Stephen.

 

Matthew Niblock scored at 5:20 of the first period with an assist from Kaden PetersonNoah Tarczon added a goal from Isaac Young and Peterson sixteen seconds later.  Isaac Johnson gave the Otters a 3-0 lead at 15:38 of the period.  Assists went to Andrew Johnson and Ian Richards.

“We got good contributions from a lot of players as each line scored a goal in the first period,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “Our ‘D’ was quite active and very involved in the play.  Ben Swanson made some very timely saves when the game was close and that was good to see.”

Colton Partain got the fourth goal of the game for Fergus Falls, scoring from Logan Schake and Niblock at 5:13 of the second period.  A power play goal by Cole Zierden, assisted by Peterson and Partain at 13:08 gave the Otters a 5-0 lead after two.

In the third period, Zierden struck again with assists from Richards and Isaac Johnson at 1:50.  Sartell-St. Stephen got on the board with a power play goal from Will SchifflerMichael Webster and Connor Hacker earned assists on the goal.  Webster then scored from Ben Marthaler at 10:40, trimming the Fergus Falls lead to 6-2.  Isaac Johnson notched the final Otter goal at 11:50 from Richards and Zierden.

Ben Swanson was solid in the net for Fergus Falls, making 28 saves on the night.

Fergus Falls will start a stretch of six straight road games when they travel to Long Prairie on Tuesday night to face Prairie Center.
