The West Central Area Knights moved to 8-1 on the season with a 59-37 win over the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder on Saturday night.

The Knights led 36-19 at the half.  "The Thunder's strategy is to play a slow paced game with a patient offense and zone defense.  About five minutes into the game, we got the pace going and we went on a 23-4 run to build up a nice halftime lead that they could never recover from," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter.

The Knights hit eleven 3-pointers for the second game in a row going 11-28 from 3-point land and had a dominating rebound performance winning that battle by a 38-24 margin.

The Knights shot 41% overall 22-54 and hit 4-6 free throws. The Thunder shot 16-45 for 35% and 1 of 4 free throws.  Turnovers were 12 by the Knights and 17 by the Thunder.

Jack VanKempen had a good all-around game with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Brady Reeve 12 points and Jacob Bright 11 points were also in double figures.  Rounding out the scoring was Gage Staples with 7, Tate Christenson with 7, Grant Beuckens 5 and Ryder Staples 3.

Leading rebounders along with VanKempen's 10 were Gage Staples and Blake Koloski with 7 each and Bright with 4.  VanKempen, Bright, Beuckens, Christenson, and Koloski all had 3 assists.

"Good to see that balance in assists with so many guys distributing the ball," noted Hunter.

Scoring for the Thunder were Ian Langford 8, Joseeph Mena 7, Brandon Fossland 7, Lance Larson 6, Pedro Jimenez 5, and Ryan Marcyes 4.

The Knights will play at Hancock on Tuesday and at Wheaton on Friday.
