The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of third period goals to take a 4-2 win over Crookston at the Community Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.  The Otters held a 40-22 edge in shots on goal.

Michael DeBrito got the Otters on the board just 2:02 into the game, assisted by Noah Tarczon.  A power play goal by Ian Richards at 8:22 made it a 2-0 lead.  Kaden Peterson and Isaac Young earned assists on the goal.  Ben Andringa scored the first Crookston goal from Jack Doda and Leyton Salentine at 8:54.

Crookston netted the tying goal at 14:36 of the second period when Doda cashed in a pass from Andringa.

Isaac Young put the Otters ahead 3-2 at 6:49 of the third with an assist from DeBrito, and a power play goal by Peterson at 10:25 gave Fergus Falls a two-goal cushion.  That goal was assisted by DeBrito and goaltender Ben Swanson.  Swanson made 20 saves in the Otter net and Crookston goalie Noah Dragseth stopped 36 Fergus Falls shots on goal.

“Our guys had a good response in the third period after Crookston did a good job killing penalties in the second and tied the game right after we had extended power play time,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “DeBrito made a great play to Isaac Young on the go ahead goal with a back door pass and then DeBrito made a good shot and Kaden scored on the rebound.  Swanson was really steady in the net the whole game.”

Fergus Falls (6-9) will host Sartell on Thursday night in a Central Lakes Conference game.
