With the game tied at 45-45 with just under four minutes remaining, the Ashby boys’ basketball team went on a 13-0 run on their way to a 63-50 victory over Battle Lake.  The Battlers led 32-23 at halftime, however, Ashby capitalized on multiple turnovers resulting in several transition baskets as they fought back from that nine point deficit.

Hunter Norby scored 15 points, leading four Arrows in double digits.  Jaden Norby and Jacob Cook each had 11 points and Torin Olson recorded all ten of his points in the final four minutes, including the 3-point field goal that broke the 45-45 tie and started the 13-point run.

The Arrows shot 51% (25/49) from the field including a season high 53% (10/19) behind the three point line.  They grabbed 37 rebounds.  Jaden Norby secured 14 boards to go along with his 11 points for a double-double.  Noah Johnson dished out 5 of the Arrows 17 assists and Jaden also recorded 4 of the Arrows 11 steals.

“The Battlers defensive pressure on the ball was outstanding the entire game,” commented Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “Our defensive intensity improved to a level closer to theirs in the second half.  We finished off some shots in the second half that we were missing in the first.  Everyone who played in the second half made a key three point basket as well.  All Arrows who played in the game contributed to the scoring total.”

Riley Leabo led Battle Lake with 19 points and Brennan Amundson scored 15.

"Tough loss at home," said Battle Lake Head Coach CJ Peeters.  "We played so well first half and had so many guys step up and execute.  It was frustrating to give it away in the second half.  Ashby did play well, hit three's and turned us over.  They won the game, we played on our heels in the second half and played not to lose.  We had some bright spots but tough to lose a close one at home against a good opponent."

Ashby (5-3, 4-0 LEC) will play at Rothsay on Monday night.

Battle Lake (0-6, 0-3 LEC) will travel to Rothsay for their next game on Thursday, January 9.
