Rally Comes Up Short as Otter Boys Fall to West Fargo 5-4

Fergus Falls and West Fargo combined for 70 shots on goal Friday night with the Packers pulling out a 5-4 victory over the Otters on day two of the Fergus Falls Holiday Tournament.

West Fargo scored the lone goal of the first period when Brayden Jacobson scored from Carter Witt and Zayne Brunette at 5:39 of the opening period.

A power play goal by Michael DeBrito at the three-minute mark of the second period tied the game at 1-1.  Sterling Andrews and Kaden Peterson assisted on the goal.  An unassisted goal by Devin Wolf at 8:03 gave the Packers a 2-1 lead.  Just 11 seconds later Jacobson scored again with assists from Tanner Nelson and Witt.  The Packers took a 4-1 lead on Brunette’s goal at 14:15, assisted by Wolf and Jackson Prochnow.  At 16:48 of the second the Otters cut the lead to 4-2 on an Isaac Young goal, assisted by Colton Partain.

The West Fargo lead increased to 5-2 on a goal at the 2:12 mark of the third period from Tanner Gourde, setup by Jacobson.  At 5:16 Andrew Johnson scored from Noah Tarczon and Michael DeBrito, and at 9:11 DeBrito tallied an unassisted goal to trim the lead to 5-4.

Fergus Falls goalie Ian Stumbo stopped 29 of 34 shots on goal and Gabe Pederson of West Fargo came up with 32 saves on the night.

The Otters close out their Holiday Tournament with a 4:00pm face-off against Detroit Lakes on Saturday at the Community Ice Arena.
