The Henning boys’ basketball team battled Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in the Granite City Classic at St. Cloud Apollo High School on Friday afternoon and posted a thrilling 79-73 double overtime victory to remain unbeaten on the season.

“We are proud of the effort from our guys today,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We trailed by double digits midway through the second half, but dug-in with our D and made some things happen to get ourselves even.”

Grant McBroom (39 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists) had a monster game for W-E-M.  Zach Sticken (12 points) and Cole Kokoschke (11 points, 9 rebounds) were also in double figures.

“Grant McBroom is unreal. Even on possessions we defended well, he found a way to score,” noted Misegades.

Henning was led by Blake Wallevand (24 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists), Parker Fraki (15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists), Lee Bjorklund (10 points), Isaac Fisher (12 points) and Blaine Wallevand (12 points, 8 rebounds).

“Obviously, Blake Wallevand, Parker Fraki and Ike Fisher need to play well for us to be great. Those guys played big minutes as we were without Brandon Trana due to an ankle injury, and we lost Tanner Arndt to an injury for almost the entire second half and OT’s,” reported Misegades. “But, the difference in the game was the contributions we got from Lee Bjorklund and Blaine Wallevand in the second half.  They stepped up big.”

The top-ranked Hornets will have a quick turnaround as they play second-ranked BOLD Saturday at 10:00am at St John’s University.
