The West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the East Grand Forks Green Waves in Barrett on Friday night.

The game started slow offensively and was back and forth throughout the entire first half.  The Green Wave were ahead at halftime 20-19.  The second half started the same way for the first few minutes.  Then the Knights began to build a lead with their defense and patience on offense. Mix in the fast break opportunities and the lead grew to 15 points.  The Green Wave would cut the lead just below double digits and then the foul game began.  The Knights finished the game out with a 48-37 victory.

Coach Eric Schoenbauer said, “This game was not our best 36 minutes we’ve played offensively, but our defense and determination prevailed.  Back to back games are difficult, but we need to ensure our focus is the same in night one and night two.  We’re pleased with the adjustments the girls made in the second half and the effort they gave throughout the entire night.”

The Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 15 points, 9 steals, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  Elizabeth Rustan had 8 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.  Teagan Nelson had 6 points on a perfect 2 for 2 from behind the arch, 2 rebounds and 4 steals.  Hailey Bennett had 6 points and an assist.  Brynn Fernholz also scored 6 points to go along with an assist and a steal.  Kaylyn Ulrich had 5 points, 5 rebounds and an assist.  Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points, 5 rebounds, a steal and an assist.  Kaitlyn Hansen had 2 rebounds and intense ball pressure all night long.  Ireland Winter had 2 rebounds and provided composure on both ends of the floor.  Halle Foslien had 5 rebounds and a block..  Claire Stark had a rebound and Brooke Anderson provided quality minutes on defense and was strong with the ball.

West Central Area has won four straight games and now has a 5-2 record.  They will face Underwood at 4:15pm Thursday in the opening round of the Pelican Rapids Tournament.
