The Ashby girls’ basketball team played a nearly mistake free first half and, despite some less than stellar shooting, forged a 27-20 lead over the Bulldogs from Swanville on Thursday night.  The lady Arrows were able to sustain their lead throughout the second half and record a 54-48 victory.

Kalista Aamot with 9 first half points and Celi Nelson adding 8 more first period tallies carried the team into the locker room with the lead.  The pesky Bulldogs kept nipping at the heels of the Lady Arrow’s Nike’s right into the final minute of the game to keep the final result in doubt. However, the Arrows prevailed as Courtney Koefod swatted the Bulldogs noses by sinking 5 second half free throws and Madeline Thompson came up big with 7 second half points to keep the dogs in the kennel.

With the win, the Arrows were able to even their record for the week at 2 and 2 and head into the Holiday break on a positive note. The Lady Arrows are next in action on Dec. 27 and 28 in Aitkin for their 35th Annual Girls’ Holiday Basketball Tournament. Ashby will take on the Class 2A Aitkin Gobblers in the first round and depending on the result will play either Braham or Nevis in second round action.
