Third Period Rally Falls Short for Otter Boys in 4-2 Loss to Cards

The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team fell behind 2-0 after one period and 4-0 after two periods before staging a third period rally that came up short in a 4-2 Alexandria victory over the Otters.

 

Caleb Strong scored short handed at 5:53 of the first period with assists from Shane Birkeland and Josiah Gronholz to get the Cardinals on the board.  Their second goal of the period came from Birkeland who was assisted Josiah Gronholz and Grant Rebrovich at 8:32.

Second period goals came from Derek Pasta, assisted by Brennan Lattimer and Caleb Strong, and Josiah Gronholz scored from Joe Westlund.

The Otters scored at 4:47 of the third on Landon Thacker’s unassisted tally.  Cole Zierden scored at 14:54, assisted by Isaac Johnson and Andrew Johnson, concluding the scoring.

Fergus Falls had 18 shots on goal and Alexandria put 30 pucks on the Otter net. Ben Swanson stopped 26 Alexandria shots.

Landyn James got the win in the Alexandria net, making 16 saves in the game.

Fergus Falls will host their Holiday Classic beginning on Thursday at the Community Arena.
