Alexandria Girls Fall to St. Cloud in Overtime

The St. Cloud Ice Breakers edged past Alexandria 3-2 in overtime in a High School Girls’ Hockey matchup on Tuesday night.  The Cardinals had 34 shots on goal and St. Cloud had 29.  Ashlea Arvidson made 32 saves for the Ice Breakers and Hailee Bailey had 26 for the Cardinals.

Alexandria jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Lauren Mars at 10:12 of the opening period, assisted by Ella Westlund.

Taylor Holm’s goal from Ava Schmidt at 2:20 of period number two brought St. Cloud even at a goal apiece.  Alexandria regained the lead at 14:17 when Hanley Block scored from Makenna Aure.

Cailey Davidson scored an unassisted goal at 9:53 of the third and the game remained tied at 2-2 through the end of regulation.

The game winner came from Holm just 44 seconds into the extra session.  Jordann Swingle and Peyton Mathiasen assisted on the goal.

Alexandria (6-2-2) will play at Fergus Falls on Thursday and will compete at the Walser Invitational at the Braemer Ice Arena December 26-28.
