Four Goal Third Period Lifts River Lakes to 7-3 Win Over Otter Boys

The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team hosted River Lakes on Saturday afternoon and the visitors erupted for four third period goals to defeat the Otters by a score of 7-3.  River Lakes had 30 shots on goal, compared to 24 for Fergus Falls.

The Otters struck first with a Landon Thacker goal from Michael DeBrito at 3:14 of the first period.  Logan Stellmach’s power play goal at 8:29, assisted by Ethan Howard tied the game at 1-1, however, Cole Zierden made it 2-1 Otters at 12:59 with assists from Owen Babolian and Noah Tarczon.

Dillon Pulsifer scored another power play goal for River Lakes at 3:32 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.  Blake Blattner assisted on the goal.  Stellmach’s second goal of the day was assisted by Griffin Bjerke and put the Stars on top 3-2 after two periods.

It didn’t take long for River Lakes to establish control in the third period as Tanner Stanley scored just twelve seconds in from Stellmach and Howard.  Robert Holmquist added an unassisted goal at 1:55, giving the Starts a 5-2 advantage.  They made it 6-2 at 3:20 of the third on a goal by Nick Rutledge, setup by Joel Sowada.  Fergus Falls got their final goal at 5:33 when Hayden Shol cashed in on a power play opportunity from Ian Richards.  A Blake Blattner goal at 9:47 concluded the scoring and gave the Stars a 7-3 road win.

Fergus Falls (3-5) will travel to Alexandria on Thursday night and to Hutchinson on Saturday for a 2:00pm face-off.
